Our Journey

A small glimpse of our origins and foundation of Marathi Mandal Ireland, and the support, love, and cheer received from the Maharashtrian diaspora in Ireland.

2008

A group of individuals came together over a cup of coffee and conceived the idea of giving back to the community that has been a source of strength for those who arrived in Ireland with dreams in their eyes and a passion to make a difference.

Marathi Mandal Ireland was established with the goal of being a one-stop destination for all things Maharashtra, during a time when finding a fellow Indian with roots in Maharashtra was a challenging task.

Jallosh was born—a program designed to showcase the talent within our community. We were fortunate to see an overwhelming response to the event, revealing some unexpected talents among our Marathi community. The event featured fantastic music, impressive performances, and delicious Maharashtrian food that was truly outstanding.

2008-2010

The journey to connect with like-minded individuals continued through casual coffee meet-ups and lip smacking Marathi potluck parties.

2011

Celebrated the 2nd edition of the most coveted event of the year - Jallosh. This year Kesari tours and travels was happy to collaborate with Marathi Mandal Ireland. Organised Gudi Padwa for the community to bring a sense of oneness for the traditions of Maharashtra.

2016

We conceived and organized "SAAD," a meet-and-greet festival held in Dublin, as a step to bring Marathi people together and strengthen the community. With a great response for SAAD, we then went on another meet and greet picnic to Kilkenny Castle.

2017

Along with Ganeshotsav and Jallosh, this year Marathi Mandal Ireland was able to play one India’s favourite games - Cricket at Phoenix Park Dublin. Marathi Mandal Ireland organised a screening for Ubuntu in Dublin.

2019

The picnic at Cahir Castle was met with an enthusiastic response from the community, and we enjoyed reliving our childhood by playing numerous games. We planned and organised a special screening for ‘Dhappa’ - one of the most loved movies of the year.

The vibrant Ganeshotsav continued as we welcomed Bappa, prayed for the community’s well-being, chanted shlokas, and sang our hearts out to our favorite kirtans. We concluded the glorious day with a visarjan procession, bidding farewell to Bappa with the chant, ‘Ganpati Bappa Morya, Pudchya Varshi Lavkar Yaa.

2020-2021

The wave of the coronavirus did not dampen our enthusiasm for community events. The only change was that we adapted to follow Covid-19 protocols. Despite being confined to our homes and limited to small Zoom boxes, the love and enthusiasm remained as strong as ever.

2022

The community enjoyed and celebrated the movie screening - Paavankhind in Dublin and Cork.

The grand Jallosh returned with a bang, and we were thrilled by the overwhelming support for Marathi Mandal Ireland. Our community came out in large numbers to celebrate Ganeshotsav. We prayed, danced, and sang to our favorite songs, embracing our culture and traditions with great joy and enthusiasm.

2024

We organized the third edition of our badminton tournament to support and encourage emerging sports enthusiasts in Dublin.

Jallosh 2024 is back with exciting new additions to our festivities. This year, alongside our traditional Ganeshotsav celebrations, we are introducing a special theme to honor and celebrate our state of Maharashtra. We will embrace a ‘Gramin’ style of celebration to express our love, respect, and gratitude for Maharashtra's villages, where many of us have deep-rooted connections. These villages, with their rich and vibrant culture, have shaped who we are today. It’s crucial that we acknowledge and pay tribute to our ancestral villages, ensuring they continue to support future generations while adapting to modern ways of living.

We are excited to introduce BramhaGarja, our highly anticipated Sarvajanik Dhol Tasha Pathak. This initiative was the result of several years of conception, planning, and logistical efforts. A big shout-out to our dedicated vadaks, whose commitment has brought our vision to life.
